Built in 1753 by Lebanese monks above the remains of an old Roman sanctuary, the monastery of Mar Moussa sparked the beginnings of Douar. Migrant families from Jbeil and Bikfaya were employed by the monks to cultivate the surrounding lands, from which a community evolved. Founder of Blatt Chaya, Edgard Chaya fondly remembers summering in Douar with his siblings and cousins.
