Surrounded by olive groves, mulberry orchards and vineyards, her name translates to “good, curing and balanced weather” from Syriac. Once an important trade point for her surrounding neighbors, her silk manufacturing flourished, and in 1918, her seven factories employed more than 500 people and much of her silk was exported to Lyon in France.
